Side Design Hotel
Designed by the architect Jan Störmer, the Side Design Hotel is housed in an ultra-modern, 12-storey tower of glass and natural stone located near Lake Alster. The top 3 floors offer wonderful views across Hamburg. The futuristic lobby, which reaches up to the 8th floor, features cream hues contrasting with grey stone and dark wood panelling and the whole space is illuminated by installations that are the work of New York light choreographer Robert Wilson. Built around the central atrium, the 178 guestrooms are decorated in dramatic, cream, white, and brown colour schemes that were created by Matteo Thun, the well-known Milanese designer. (He even designed the hotel ashtrays.) The standard rooms (called Superior Rooms) are 28 m² and have a bath/shower, WC, carpet and parquet floors. (Non-smoker rooms and two rooms suitable for disabled persons are also available in this category upon request). Decorated in bold yellow, orange and green tones, the hotel’s Spa offers such treatments as Thai massage, facials, peelings and lymphatic drainage. The wood-panelled “Fusion Restaurant” blends European and Asian cuisine, and has a sushi bar. Furnished with pod-shaped sofas upholstered in vibrant colours, the 8th floor lounge bar and outdoor terrace afford panoramic views of Hamburg's skyline towards the port and Alster Lake.
